Tariffs and West Virginia — Good or Bad?
With the recent discussion around the use of tariffs as trade policy, the WV News reached out to the Cardinal Institute for our thoughts on the proposed policy. In short, tariffs are bad for nearly everyone, including West Virginia. See some thoughts below:
“Protectionism of any kind, including tariffs, does one thing above all else — hurt domestic consumers,” said Garrett Ballengee, executive director of the conservative Cardinal Institute for West Virginia Policy. “By artificially increasing the price of goods, consumers are worse off than if tariffs had never been imposed. Of course, this has damaging effects up and down the supply chain, as well.”
