Op-Ed: PEIA — Perceptions vs. Reality
Cardinal’s development director, Jessi Troyan, discusses some of the misconceptions surrounding the controversial PEIA public employee insurance program. In the Daily Mail Opinion page of the Charleston Gazette-Mail, Jessi says that it may not be perfect, but compared to most, it’s a very good plan. A sample below:
“Part of the statewide discontent this spring centered on the rising premiums borne by state employees who have Public Employee Insurance Agency as their primary health insurance.
Headlines amplified this sentiment, and ongoing discussions have focused on what should be done to curb these increases.
Nonetheless, these are claims that deserve to sink or swim not on their emotional appeal, but on their empirical validity — both in terms of accuracy and prevalence of the belief.”
