Cardinal Institute Celebrates Historic Win for West Virginia Families

Charleston, WV – The Cardinal Institute is thrilled by the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals’ historic decision to uphold the Hope Scholarship and empower the families of the Mountain State.

This innovative program will create life-changing opportunity for current and future generations of West Virginians. This is emblematic of the shift in priorities from systems to students – a change that puts those who matter most first – kids.

“What started off as a dream seven years ago, has now been realized with today’s decision by the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals. There is no doubt that West Virginia’s trajectory has now been changed and future generations will look back on today as a pivotal moment in education,” said Garrett Ballengee. “Every West Virginian has been given the freedom to choose an education that best fits his or her needs regardless of zip code or income level. Today, every West Virginian should be proud to be a Mountaineer.”

With 93% of West Virginia’s kids now eligible for the program, and the potential for 100% eligibility, the Hope Scholarship pushes West Virginia from the back of the pack to the front, leading the march toward greater education freedom for all. The Cardinal Institute will continue its support of families as the Hope Scholarship is implemented.

“It’s time to get to work. Tomorrow has begun today!” exclaimed Andrew Bambrick, Education Outreach Coordinator for the Cardinal Institute.
