Monroe P. Warner

Colonel (retired) “Monty” Warner was born and raised in Kanawha County, and is now President and CEO of the YMCA of Kanawha Valley. After graduating from West Point in 1978, Colonel Warner served as an active-duty Field Artillery officer for 25 years. After completing his military service, Colonel Warner helped build the largest private rental housing business in Morgantown and later led the West Virginia Republican Party’s statewide ticket as its nominee for the office of Governor in 2004. His education includes a BS in Engineering from West Point, as well as graduate degrees from the Naval Postgraduate School, the Armed Forces Staff College, and the Army War College, and Marshall University. Colonel Warner has traveled extensively on six continents, is an avid outdoorsman, an Eagle Scout, and has kayaked the length of the Grand Canyon four times. He and his wife Janie have three grown children.
